Vietnam FDI for 2022 Tops US$27 billion: MoIP

Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment has released its December 2022 report on foreign direct investment (FDI). Here’s how Vietnam’s FDI sector is faring.
December of 2022 was another good month in terms of foreign direct investment for Vietnam. In total it clocked an additional 224 new projects, bringing its total for the year to 2,036. It also received just over an additional US$2.5 billion in registered capital, bringing its total for the year to US$27.72 billion.
So, in December, where did Vietnam’s FDI come from? And where did it go?
Where did Vietnam’s FDI come from in December?
Korea, Singapore, and Hong Kong, in that order, topped Vietnam’s FDI source countries in December 2022. Between them they kicked off 108 new projects around Vietnam. They also contributed the lion’s share of new registered capital with a combined total of just over US$1.7 billion.

Which sectors in Vietnam received FDI in December?
Vietnam’s manufacturing and processing sector maintained its lead in terms of attracting FDI, in December with US$1.8 billion. It was followed closely by real estate (US$263) which only just came in before professional, scientific and technical services (US$262).

Which provinces received FDI in December and how much did they receive?
Ba Ria – Vung Tau came in first in December receiving US$469 million in FDI. It was followed closely by the port city of Hai Phong with US$425 million, with HCMC rounding out the top 3 with a little over US$400 million.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment has released its November 2022 report on foreign direct investment (FDI) for the first 11 months of the year. Here’s how Vietnam’s FDI sector is faring.
November was a relatively good month for Vietnam in terms of newly registered capital for FDI enterprises. In total registration certificates for 242 new projects were approved and Vietnam received US$2.7 billion in newly registered capital.
This brings the current FDI tally, year-to-date (YTD), to just over US$25 billion.

RELATED SERVICES
Hong Kong saw the biggest increase in registered capital in FDI projects, in Vietnam, in November. It registered US$576 million in capital and 17 new projects in Vietnam. It was followed closely by China, Singapore, and Japan.

Which sectors in Vietnam received FDI in November?
By far the biggest winner in attracting FDI in Vietnam, in November, was the manufacturing and processing sector. It counted 55 new projects and new registered capital of US$2 billion. That said, the “wholesale and retail; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” sector saw the most new projects with a total of 72.
